7 Restricted Free Agents Who Probably Won’t Move

Since all of the below free agents have less than 7 years of NBA experience, the maximum they can get in the first year of their contract is $23.6 Million with exception of Jordan Clarkson who is subject to the Gilbert Arenas Provision.

Andre Drummond – C, Pistons

  • Age: 22
  • Chances of Departure: 0%
  • Possible Destinations: DET
  • Scenario for Departure: None

Bradley Beal – SG, Wizards

  • Age: 23
  • Chances of Departure: 5%
  • Possible Destinations: WAS
  • Scenario for Departure: Injury concerns scare Washington from giving Beal a 5-year maximum contract.

Jordan Clarkson – G, Lakers

  • Age: 24
  • Chances of Departure: 0%
  • Possible Destinations: LAL, PHI
  • Scenario for Departure: None. The Gilbert Arenas Provision, which applies to players with less than three years of NBA experience, caps the amount Clarkson can get offered in the first two years of his contract.

Evan Fournier – SG, Magic

  • Age: 23
  • Chances of Departure: 5%
  • Possible Destinations: ORL
  • Scenario for Departure: Very few. The Magic made the trade for Serge Ibaka in part to make room for Fournier to be a featured player on their team. They will likely match any offer.

Harrison Barnes – SF, Warriors

  • Age: 24
  • Chances of Departure: 10%
  • Possible Destinations: GSW, PHI
  • Scenario for Departure: The Warriors sign Kevin Durant.

Festus Ezeli – C, Warriors

  • Age: 26
  • Chances of Departure: 30%
  • Possible Destinations: GSW, PHI
  • Scenario for Departure: The Warriors sign Kevin Durant, or find a viable veteran replacement at center.

Allen Crabbe – SF, Trail Blazers

  • Age: 24
  • Chances of Departure: 15%
  • Possible Destinations: LAL, PHI
  • Scenario for Departure: The Trail Blazers’ rumored limit on Crabbe is $15 per year. If another team signs him to an offer sheet considerably higher, the Blazers may be forced to move him.

20 Unrestricted Free Agents Who Might Move

Kevin Durant – SF, Thunder

  • Age: 27
  • Chances of Departure:: 10%
  • Possible Destinations: OKC, GSW, SAS, LAC, BOS, MIA
  • Scenario for Departure: If Durant doesn’t think he has a chance to win an NBA title with OKC, or is sincerely convinced that Westbrook will leave after next season no matter what.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $28.1 Million
  • Projected Contract: 1-year, $28.1 Million + Player Option

Mike Conley – PG, Grizzlies

  • Age: 28
  • Chances of Departure:: 20%
  • Possible Destinations: MEM, DAL, SAS, BKN
  • Scenario for Departure: The Grizzlies will do everything in their power to retain their gritty lead guard, can only imagine him leaving to go to Spurs to pursue a championship.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $28.1 Million
  • Projected Contract: 5-year, Max

DeMar DeRozan – SG, Raptors

  • Age: 27
  • Chances of Departure: 10%
  • Possible Destinations: TOR, LAL
  • Scenario for Departure: Not Many. DeRozan had a breakout year as one of the two stars on a Raptors team that accomplished the most in franchise history. Toronto is his home.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $28.1 Million
  • Projected Contract: 5-year, Max

Al Horford – C, Hawks

  • Age: 29
  • Chances of Departure: 40%
  • Possible Destinations: ATL, BOS, OKC
  • Scenario for Departure: This one is interesting because Horford is the Hawks’ number one priority, but he seems to want to explore his options. Will be one of the more interesting free agents to watch.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $28.1 Million
  • Projected Contract: 4-year, Max

Hassan Whiteside – C, Heat

  • Age: 26
  • Chances of Departure: 70%
  • Possible Destinations: DAL, MIA
  • Scenario for Departure: Whiteside is a complete wild card who displayed erratic behavior during the season. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him pursue a fresh start in free agency.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $23.6 Million
  • Projected Contract: 4-year, maximum

Dwight Howard – C, Rockets

  • Age: 30
  • Chances of Departure: 80%
  • Possible Destinations: BOS, DAL, HOU, BKN, NYK
  • Scenario for Departure: Given the apparent rift between Howard and Harden – both on the court and in the locker room – his departure from Houston seems inevitable. Howard’s lack of health and consistent production will net him less than the max, even in a year spiked with cash.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $32.9 Million
  • Projected Contract: 3-years, $24M per year

Chandler Parsons – SF, Mavericks

  • Age: 27
  • Chances of Departure: 90%
  • Possible Destinations: POR, MEM, BOS, PHO, HOU
  • Scenario for Departure: The Parsons Project was a failure in Dallas. A combination of injury and failed free agent recruitment limited his impact during a tight window for Dirk Nowitzki’s waning contention. Expect the Mavericks to move on from the uncertainty.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $23.6 Million
  • Projected Contract: 4-years, Max

Nicolas Batum – SF, Hornets

  • Age: 27
  • Chances of Departure: 15%
  • Possible Destinations: CHA, NYK
  • Scenario for Departure: The Hornets have a plethora of free agents, and gaps to fill. It will be all about which pieces they feel best fit their puzzle. If Batum is considered cumbersome to several, cheaper options, he could go. As of now, it seems he is priority #1.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $28.2 Million
  • Projected Contract: 4-year, Max

Ryan Anderson – PF, Pelicans

  • Age: 28
  • Chances of Departure: 60%
  • Possible Destinations: NOP, DET, LAL, GSW
  • Scenario for Departure: The Hornets’ future is predicated around Anthony Davis. With Davis just 23-years old, and the Hornets nowhere near championship contention, they may balk at Anderson’s high asking price in order to reset the roster.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $28.1 Million
  • Projected Contract: 4-years, $22M per year

Rajon Rondo – PG, Kings

  • Age: 30
  • Chances of Departure: 50%
  • Possible Destinations: SAC, BKN, PHI
  • Scenario for Departure: The enigmatic Rondo actually seemed to fit in the chaotic Sacramento environment. He seemed to address himself as the big brother to DeMarcus Cousins, who reciprocated the notion. Can only see him leaving that situation for the bright lights.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $32.9 Million
  • Projected Contract: 2-years, $20M per year

Joakim Noah – C, Bulls

  • Age: 31
  • Chances of Departure: 95%
  • Possible Destinations: NYK
  • Scenario for Departure: It’s a foregone conclusion as the Bulls traded for Robin Lopez and are committed to “retooling” their roster (aka getting younger).
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $32.9 Million
  • Projected Contract: 3-year, $18M per year

Kent Bazemore – SG, Hawks

  • Age: 27
  • Chances of Departure: 35%
  • Possible Destinations: PHO, ATL, BKN, NYK
  • Scenario for Departure: There’s multiple scenarios for him to remain or leave. If Horford does leave Atlanta, they could concentrate more resources on retaining Bazemore. He’s one of the wildcards of this free agency.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: None
  • Projected Contract: None

Brandon Jennings – PG, Magic

  • Age: 26
  • Chances of Departure: 75%
  • Possible Destinations: BKN, PHI
  • Scenario for Departure: With Elfrid Payton at the helm, it seems a foregone conclusion that Jennings is on his way out the door. If Brooklyn doesn’t snag either Conley or Rondo, look for them to pursue Jennings.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $28.1 Million
  • Projected Contract: 4-years, $19M per year

Dwyane Wade – SG, Heat

  • Age: 34
  • Chances of Departure: 5%
  • Possible Destinations: MIA, DAL
  • Scenario for Departure: After the postseason Wade just had, he proved he’s still worthy of a good salary. Pat Riley would be wise not to yank his franchise player around this offseason. But if he does, there will be suitors.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $32.9 Million
  • Projected Contract: 2-years, $15M per year

Pau Gasol – C, Bulls

  • Age: 35
  • Chances of Departure: 95%
  • Possible Destinations: NYK, GSW, DAL
  • Scenario for Departure: Ditto for Gasol. The Bulls are moving in a different direction from their veteran big men.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $32.9 Million
  • Projected Contract: 2-years, $15M per year

Bismack Biyombo – C, Raptors

  • Age: 23
  • Chances of Departure: 20%
  • Possible Destinations: TOR, LAL
  • Scenario for Departure: No one made more money this postseason than Bismack Biyombo. But really he owes the opportunity to Toronto, and they owe some of their wins to his heart and defense. I expect them to reunite this offseason
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $23.6 Million
  • Projected Contract: 4-years, $16M per year

Courtney Lee – SG, Hornets

  • Age: 30
  • Chances of Departure: 80%
  • Possible Destinations: NYK, CHA, PHI, PHO, BOS
  • Scenario for Departure: The acquisition of Marco Bellinelli likely spells the end of Lee’s short tenure in Charlotte. Expect him to go somewhere where he will have the opportunity to start or make an impact.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $28.1 Million
  • Projected Contract: 3-years, $12M per year

Evan Turner – SG, Celtics

  • Age: 27
  • Chances of Departure: 50%
  • Possible Destinations: BOS, SAC, PHO, NYK, PHI
  • Scenario for Departure: Turner seems like a good fit in Boston’s play-style, but may get priced out of Ainge’s larger aspirations for the franchise. Watch out for Turner to be on the move if Boston lands one of their big fish.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $28.1 Million
  • Projected Contract: 3-years, $14M per year

Al Jefferson – C, Hornets

  • Age: 31
  • Chances of Departure: 40%
  • Possible Destinations: CHA, LAL
  • Scenario for Departure: It’s hard to imagine Charlotte ditching one of the key pieces from their playoff run last year. Jefferson is a plodding, injury-prone big man, but when he’s on the floor few are better at scoring in the post. Look for Charlotte to bring back the man who started it all in Charlotte’s second rendition.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $32.9 Million
  • Projected Contract: 2-years, $20M per year

Eric Gordon – SG, Pelicans

  • Age: 27
  • Chances of Departure: 50%
  • Possible Destinations: NYK, PHI, NOP
  • Scenario for Departure: Eric Gordon’s market value may be the most interesting of any free agent out there. He’s 27-years old, and one of the best shooters in the league, when healthy. But that’s often a rarity. Over the course of his career, Gordon has only played in 65% of potential games. Whoever signs Gordon, will be taking a risk.
  • Maximum Contract Year 1: $28.1 Million
  • Projected Contract: 3-years, $12M per year
