The Knicks have agreed to a two-year, $16 million with free agent shooting guard Arron Afflalo. The second year will be a player option.
Afflalo will add a much needed perimeter threat to the Knicks, he is a career 38.5% three-point shooter. The 29-year old is an above-average defender, and passer, from the shooting guard spot. He was considered one of the better 3-and-D wings in this free agent class.
After missing out on the first day free agent frenzy, the Knicks have added their first free agent of the off-season. Considering the size of other contracts, this is a relative steal. In a market that yielded $15m/year for DeMarre Carroll and $8m/year for Al-Farouq Aminu, the Knicks have added a proven, starting guard for just $8m/year.
The first signing from Phil was certainly judicious shopping.
